Boosting Iron and Energy with Flora’s Iron+ with B-Vitamin Complex

If you’ve supplemented with iron, you know not all iron supplements are created equal. Not only are they notoriously hard to absorb, but they can also often cause constipation or other digestive issues. We are big supporters of Flora’s products. So of course we jumped at the opportunity to try their Iron+ liquid formulation. This innovative iron supplement has been shown to cause a 24% boost in levels of ferritin (stored iron) in just one month — with no digestive side effects. But before we get into the product, we wanted to break down what it means to be iron deficient and the signs to look out for.

What Does It Mean To Be Iron Deficient?

When the body doesn’t have enough iron, it isn’t able to produce hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen throughout the body. This can lead to a condition called iron deficiency anemia, which is extremely common. Typically, the causes of anemia (for women of childbearing age) include loss of iron in the blood due to heavy menstruation or pregnancy, a diet low in iron, or digestive issues that affect the absorption of iron.

Signs You Are Deficient:

While there are many signs and everybody’s different, these are some common signs of iron deficiency to look out for:

  • Unexplained fatigue or lack of energy
  • Pale skin
  • Chest pain, fast heartbeat or shortness of breath
  • Headache, dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Inflammation or soreness of your tongue
  • Brittle nails or hair loss
  • Cold hands and feet

If you suspect that you are iron deficient, the best thing to do first is to get your levels checked with your healthcare practitioner. From there, they will advise as to whether or not you should be supplementing.

Flora’s Iron+ With B-Vitamin Complex

Like with any new supplement, it can be confusing to choose which iron supplement is right for you. Flora’s innovative formula features liquid ferrous gluconate — a form of iron clinically proven to quickly and significantly raise iron levels. In fact, in a head-to-head test of four kinds of iron, liquid ferrous gluconate was the best absorbed and tolerated. In addition to containing 10 mg of elemental iron per serving, Iron+ also contains a range of B-Complex vitamins to help increase energy. (As well as iron, vitamins B12 and B6 are also required to make red blood cells).
