alternative healing spotlight: card readings

Whether as a party trick or through an actual card reader, I think it would be safe to say that most of us have experienced at least one card reading. But what you might not know is that card readings (Tarot, Angel, etc.) can in fact be very healing in that they encourage personal introspection, and can possibly help us get to the root cause of some of our problems. We wanted to learn more about card readings, so chatted with Kaylee Woolhether, who in addition to being a holistic nutritionist, founder of Health Starts Today and Reiki healer, she is also happens to be an expert card reader.

For those who haven’t experienced card readings, what are they and how do they work?
Tarot and oracle cards hold a divinatory purpose and are intended to bring the reading recipient messages, insight and knowledge to guide them along their life path. Angel cards in particular are deeply supportive and motivating; they encourage you to follow your heart and dreams.

The cards work on the law of attraction and act as a mirror of our lives. They reflect our current situation and probable future based upon our current thought patterns, behaviours, and beliefs. The beauty in holding up this mirror is that we receive an opportunity to ask ourselves if we are happy and content with what we see reflected back. We can change anything we see in a reading by changing and elevating our thought patterns, behaviours, and beliefs, thus changing the vibration of what we are attracting into our lives.

Who and when might someone benefit the most from a card reading?
Truly anyone at anytime! However, I see people receiving the most benefit from a reading when things in their life feel out of alignment — job/career, relationships, health, and otherwise. They have a sense that something is off but aren’t sure where to start or which direction to move in. The cards will identify patterns or beliefs that are holding them back, realign them with their truth, and provide gentle guidance on how to move forward.

How do card readings differ in terms of offering an immediate solution to an acute problem (e.g. emotional trauma, severe anxiety, etc.) vs. as a more long-term solution (e.g. general loss of life direction, lack of motivation, chronic emotional distress, etc.)?
Angel cards are very good at highlighting that which is acting as the root cause of acute problems, such as emotional trauma or anxiety. And more importantly, they share how we can go about healing that root cause. This acts as a link in the chain to healing deeper chronic issues, which puts us into better mental, physical and emotional health and lays the groundwork for finding longterm solutions.

Why are card readings such an important alternative healing therapy?
The cards act as a powerful tool for bringing us back to our truth. At the core of most mental and emotional strife, and much dis-ease, is feeling out of alignment with ourselves and our truth. Working with the cards helps us dive into ourselves, develop intuition, and gain clarity on our truth so we can make decisions easily, and relieve anxiety, worry, and fear. I believe the most important lesson we can learn from the cards is that we hold the power to improve our life!
